MY FAMILY'S SLEEP STORY

Originally hailing from South Africa, I embarked on a one-year adventure to practice optometry in the Caribbean nation of Trinidad and Tobago. Little did I know that it would end up becoming my home, as I married a wonderful Trini and became a mother in 2018.

During those early months of motherhood, I experienced firsthand the incredible toll that sleep deprivation takes on both parents and children. Exhaustion was seeping into every aspect of our lives, making it increasingly difficult to be the patient, present parents we aspired to be.

Determined to find a solution, I began to explore the world of pediatric sleep. With newfound hope and determination, I embarked on a sleep training journey with my son. The results were nothing short of astonishing. My son was transformed into a rested, content baby, and I became the parent and partner I had always wanted to be. Getting proper sleep became paramount to our family's well-being.

FROM OPTOMETRIST TO SLEEP CONSULTANT

Motivated by this life-changing experience, I decided to pursue a career as a certified sleep consultant. I enrolled in a comprehensive program and obtained my certification. The timing couldn't have been better, as the COVID-19 pandemic brought unforeseen challenges, including restrictions that prevented me from practicing optometry full-time.

When my second child was born, I eagerly implemented the sleep foundations I had learned with my newborn. The outcome surpassed my expectations. By 14 weeks, she was sleeping a blissful 12 hours through the night, even as a baby who was breastfed until age two. The experience proved to me that you don’t have to sacrifice the priceless snuggles of the newborn phase to establish good sleep habits.

I was more inspired than ever to help other parents, sharing what I’d learned from my certification program and from my own experience as a mom.

HOW I SUPPORT FAMILIES

Quality sleep is not just a luxury. It’s essential for a child’s physical, cognitive and emotional development. For parents, sleep is what allows us to do the best we can for our children and the family unit as a whole. The impact of sleep (or the lack of it) on our overall well-being is profound.

My approach centers on compassion, evidence-based techniques, and your family’s specific needs. So I work closely with parents to create a personalized sleep plan that fits your child's temperament, age, and your family values. Importantly, each plan is rooted in the latest research and best practices in pediatric sleep science.

Throughout the sleep training process, I offer one-on-one support and continued guidance, here to answer any and every question you might have—no matter how big, small or seemingly silly (there are no silly questions!). Even if all you need is a reminder that you’re doing an amazing job, I’m here for you every step of the way as we work toward your sleep goals.
